That's why groom's shoes are a category won at the ordering stage, not in the window. Here is a practical guide to building your range for wedding season — what to look for, which colours, which sizes, and when to order.

What a groom's shoe needs

• Genuine leather. It shows in photos, it shows up close, and it is what justifies the price to the customer. A groom's shoe will be photographed more than any other shoe you sell.
• Comfort for long hours. A wedding runs from the ceremony to the last dance — standing, dancing, photographs. A breathable lining and a sole that lasts all those hours are not a luxury.
• A slip-resistant sole. Marble at the ceremony, tiles at the reception, grass at an outdoor venue. This is a safety property, not a specification detail.
• A line that works afterwards. The strongest selling point of all: the customer isn't buying a one-day shoe, but a formal shoe he will wear again at weddings, christenings and the office.

Colours: black, taba and tan

Black remains the foundation — it goes with a dark suit or a tuxedo and needs no explanation. The 5101 in black is a shoe for milestones, understated enough to be worn long after the wedding day.

But more and more weddings aren't black-suit weddings. With a navy, grey or beige suit, taba is the natural choice. The 5101 Taba is most in demand from May to September, and it comes with an argument that closes the sale: it is just as wearable after the wedding.

For spring weddings and lighter suits, the 272 lace-up in tan is the warmer alternative to black. And for the customer in a navy suit who wants a classic lace-up, the 372 in brown is a strong second option alongside black.

Lace-up or loafer?

The classic lace-up never goes out of style — the 272 Black is the most dependable style in our catalogue. With younger customers, though, the formal loafer is gaining ground. The 5195, in black and taba, laceless and on a rubber sole, deserves window space for the younger groom or the best man who wants something less strict.

When to order

Wedding season starts in spring, but its ordering starts earlier:

• The 5101 and 5195 are sold on pre-order — shipping is confirmed once production is scheduled. The earlier the order is placed, the earlier it goes into production.
• The 272 and 372 are made to order, with an estimated ship date shown on your order.
• For the 272 in tan, which is in strong demand during wedding season, we recommend ordering before April.

A simple first order
